Why we cap it at about a dozen
Every agency that grows past its founders ends up in the same place. The people who sold you the work stop doing the work, and it gets passed to whoever is cheapest to put on it.
We'd rather not go that way, so we've put a ceiling on it. Around a dozen clients is what two people can deliver properly (alonside doing all the work to run a business), which means every piece of research, every page, every campaign and every report is done by one of us. Nothing is outsourced and nothing is handed to a junior.
It means we occasionally say no, but we think that's a fair trade for knowing the work is actually getting done.

Charlie Shaw
Delivery, plus the admin
Born and raised in Cheshire. Like Patrick I'm on the delivery, so keyword research, building sites, on-page work, Google Ads and the monthly reporting. On top of that I run the back office, which is contracts, accounts, spend and making sure the numbers add up. Not glamorous, but somebody has to.
I was working full time for the first seven months of building this business, so I worked before, during and after my 9-5. Now outside work I'm reading, eating, or walking the dog with a podcast on.
Patrick Carragher
Delivery, plus the sales
Born in Yorkshire and raised in an ex-mining village where most people ended up on the tools, so trades businesses were never an abstract thing to me. I've worked in-house and freelance in marketing before this. I'm on the delivery alongside Charlie, and I'm also the one who often takes the first call and stays in touch once you're on board.
I came out of university to dedicate all of my attention to this business. I spend too long on the finer details of the websites we put together, because a site is usually the first impression somebody gets.
